UIA 2nd Best Government Agency of the Year 2015

For the first time, Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) considered Government Agencies as a fourth category in their annual Private Sector Development Awards, which were held on 10th February 2016 at the Royal Suites, Bugoloobi, in Kampala.

Uganda Investment Authority emerged among the top three Government Agencies that, according to private sector companies approached in the survey, contributed significantly toward private sector development in 2015.

Forty five (45) government agencies were nominated for the award and the top three were shortlisted. These included: Uganda National Bureau of Standards which won the award, Uganda Investment Authority was 1st runner up to the award, followed by Uganda Registration Services Bureau, the 2nd runner up.

Mr Ajer was accompanied by Mr. Godfrey Semakula (UIA Lands Development Division) and Ms Sheila K Mugyenzi (UIA Communications and PR Unit)

The Chief Guest, Ms Christina Malmberg Calvo, World Bank Uganda’s Country Manager, in her congratulatory remarks applauded the government agencies’ efforts in contributing to the improved ease of doing business in Uganda.

The other three categories of awards included:

The business association of the year;
The rural associations that have developed innovative
approaches to grow rural businesses e.g.farmers;
The corporate company that has helped to promote human capital development especially among the children who are still in their formative years of education

Mr. Basil Ajer, who represented the Executive Director at the event thanked the private sector for their collaboration in the course of UIA’s work and emphasized UIA’s commitment to improved service delivery to both domestic and foreign investors, as well as the enhancement of SMEs.

He informed the guests about the progress on the e-biz portal, which he said would integrate a number of government agencies to work better and faster together to serve the business community.
